The arrival of a new first-party game for Nintendo Switch is always a special event, and the combination package of Super Mario 3D World and Bowser’s Fury is no exception. The games are excellent and the technology is fascinating – as John reveals.

  1. Such a great game. The masterpiece hybrid handheld-tabletop-console titles just keep on coming.

Onwards to Bravely Default 2 and Persona 5 Strikers and the real gem, Monster Hunter Rise

  2. But is it beefy enough to stand alone as a $60 game? Or is it more of a $20 game? That's really the question for me here. I already paid for Super Mario 3D World, and I'm fully uninterested in paying for it again. Bowser's Fury needs to be worth whatever the game costs on its own or I'm not parting with money.

  3. Pffft the retrorgb bob when bob deinterlacing came up made me laugh ๐Ÿ˜‚

  4. Wow, after almost 5 months finally another technical analysis of a Nintendo Switch game again…for whatever reason you ignored Doom Eternal, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Immortals Fenyx Rising and Control (first worldwide released Switch game via Cloud).

The fact that you rigorously ignored a target audience here for months on end for no reason at all is really an outrage even though they didn't do anything to you unlike the next gen fanboy community. My sympathy towards you regarding the attacks at that time is limited.

  5. Best Mario game is from 90s on Sega genesis ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  6. Donยดt worry, guys.

The real masterrace (and no i donยดt mean "PC" with that lmao) will soon be able to play this game with 120 fps or even 240 fps too…Nothing special about it.

  7. Honestly I wish that there was an option for a performance mode in BF for handheld. The low frame rate is just so rough. I'd take any reduction in image quality over the loss in frame rate

  8. Tbh I don't mind 30fps handheld for bowser's fury! So far it's been a good experience

  9. Make mario walk quicker and sell an 8 year old wii u game for ยฃ40, genius.

  10. Wanna hear a joke that i recently learned?

"NIntendo is calling the Switch the "Switch" because it`s NINTENDO itself that "Switched"….to the dark side" (like EA, Ubisoft etc)…xD

There you go! Understood? Nintendo SWITCHED to the Dark side…hahaha!

So perfectly fitting! I canยดt stop laughing omg…

Well actually this isnยดt just for a laugh…it`s also 100% REAL! And 100% sad, that Nintendo switched…

  11. Is it bad I already have all 100 cat shines?

  12. Bowserโ€™s Fury is really bad in portable mode. Bloodborne bad lol. Docked all the way for that game.

  13. a 40-year-old overweight plumber in a furry-outfit running on all fours, in a game mainly directed at children.
    only in japan…

  14. I got a severe frame rate drop, to maybe 10-20, on the golden island that appears in the post game during Bowser

  15. I had the feeling while playing Super Mario 3D World in Dockmode that there were several times framerate drops.

  16. ๐“๐ก๐ž๐‘๐ž๐๐‘๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ง says:

Plays even better on PC ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. The Switch is Nintendoโ€™s greatest console

  18. The bowsers fury shimmering is really distracting even in docked mode for me.

  19. Anyone else see docked performance is bowsers fury get way worse as you progress?

When I first started, performance was fine, but now I see lag and slowdown even when its daytime. My suspicion is that its due to more of the world having to be rendered.

  20. "Overall i think it(speed) is a nice change and it does improve the pacing of the game". My god, finally someone who just said if it's good or bad for the gameplay, until now i could only find comparisons, but i was doubtful if it was an improvement since i supposed the game was designed with the slow speed in mind. Thanks for the direct and honest opinion.

  21. I played and enjoyed Super Mario 3D World in portable mode at 60fps, when I started playing Bowser's Fury in portable mode it was dissapointing 30fps, it felt very wonky. I switched to docked mode and had a blast, and for me Bowser's Fury is better than Odyssey and 3D World. Hopefully Mario's next 3D adventure is something like it.

  22. How much would y'all bet the lag's because 3D world runs on Wii U engine?

  23. Bowser's Fury isn't a new game, it's more or less just belated Odyssey DLC about the size of the Sand Kingdom.

  24. am I the only one getting crazy framerate drops in 3D World?

  25. "One of the best games on the Wii-U" unfortunately isn't the accolade it should be, and this is coming from someone who bought the console Day 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has its treasures but was unfortunately doomed from the start. Definitely will have to pick up this game though. Playing Sackboy: A Big Adventure has rekindled my taste for platformers, especially with couch co-op.

  26. Yikes it's 720p? Nintendo's games are so good, but man it's hard going from 4k 60fps games on my ps5 to 720p games on the switch. Wish they had a non-portable console with a bit more power ๐Ÿ™

  27. Using reverseNX on a modded switch plus a overclock means a decent 60fps portable mode ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

  28. Repeating a reply I made to another comment here, the framerate dips in Bowser's Fury are far worse than this video may make it seem. The framerate while exploring some of the later islands in particular, especially when combined with the visual effects of Bowser's attacks, bring me back to the days of N64 Banjo-Tooie, I'm not kidding it's really awful. Thankfully, though, most of the game (and the entirety of 3D World) looks positively stunning for the hardware.

  29. I've noticed that the framerate takes more and more severe dips after collecting 50 shines. Not sure why this happens…

  30. Shame about the 30fps handheld but holy shit you weren't kidding, that soundtrack is amazing!

  31. I am definitely playing Bowser's Fury at a relaxed pace because I'm several hours in, only have nearly 30 shines, and still need the map to get around to each section of the lake.

  32. This video is way too ambiguous. The game rarely gets to 720p in handheld mode and is usually a blurry mess with it also killing the Switch battery even worse than Mario Odyssey. This Wii U port is very disappointing

  33. This game performed like shit for me lol I played mostly portable unfortunately. Also 3D world felt super slippery with the speed increase

  34. Thanks for the analysis! I'll definitely be picking this up when I have the chance.

  35. No mention of the long load times in Bowser's Fury.

  36. Bowser's Fury is a triumph in concept and execution. I love the Kaiju idea and open ended design. The future of 3D Mario is looking very bright indeed.
